Artist statement: "I want my paintings to have a feeling of action like a motion picture or with a motion effect that will make you emotionally charged. I try to create an illusion of energy and movement. My paintings are a creation of imagination, memories and places I have traveled."
Subjects: energy-motions. 'e-motion'
Joachim McMillan: Born on the Caribbean Island of Grenada, West Indies. I am a self taught artist. l had no formal art training. My father, Loftus McMillan, is my biggest influence. I started painting with watercolors and acrylics for galleries in Grenada. I also drew cartoons for two of Grenada's main newspapers as early as 15 years old.
In my early 20's, I migrated to New York City to study technology and at the same time continued to explore different art techniques. I now reside in Oregon, where I work for a leading semi conductor company and together expess my creativity on canvas. My technical and artistic diversity plays a role in my unique technique and style.
I paint with images and memories from my mind. I express things as they appear to me. My paintings are an extract of action, energy and motion. I paint oils with the palette knife, a style I like because it is challenging. I like painting wet, it allows me to create motion in my paintings. Each painting tells a story and is part of a series, it will draw you in and make you want to touch the high textured surface. The rain- drops effects and the motion in my paintings will leave you emotionally charged. Seeing is believing.
